3 Ways Christ Helps Us Combat Depression (Guest Post)

3 Ways Christ Helps Us Combat Depression

Panic sets in. Heart racing, your eyes dart around frantically. You gasp desperately for breath, and your entirety trembles. There is no escape. The darkness has imprisoned you, and from within there is no way out.

Depression is the seemingly inescapable, wall-less prison that confines and cripples teens today. The cycle of fears feeding fears leaves teens feeling hopeless, worn out, and defeated. This is when the Devil tries his hardest to lead us into despair. Those lacking a consistent and strong connection to the truths of the Bible will ultimately fail to stand on their own strength. Yet, at times, it seems impossible to discard the mindset of despair. Thankfully, by God’s grace, there are three factors to combating this mindset.. This isn’t a “3 steps to leave depression” guidebook. It’s not the same for everyone. But in my personal experience, I’ve found that these three things are often key to my thoughts and doubts. I hope they help you as much as they did me.

Are You Making the Most of Your Sabbath?

Sunset

As many of you have probably seen, I don’t post on Sundays. This is not a personal conviction, but more of a matter of convenience. Sunday is my one day of true rest, a day of no school. But, because this isn’t a matter of conviction, I would, under the right circumstances, post on a Sunday.

However, God’s word is pretty clear on this subject. When a new Christian begins to read the Bible, they often start in Genesis. There, while reading the Creation story, one of the first things that stands out is God’s day of rest. Genesis 2:1-3 gives the account of this story.

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

Some people read this verse and take it too far. They claim that the Sabbath day is so holy, we shouldn’t do an ounce of work on that particular day. The Rabbis of old, for example, mistakenly believed this. So, instead of reading into this too much, we must instead think about it in a realistic way.

bible-1868070__340.jpg

Life is full of difficulties and stress. As Christians, we often fall under the weight of the pressure. So, once a week, I will be publishing two new verses, just in case you are having a bad day. Here you are!

Romans 8:21-22

“What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not withhold his own Son, but gave him up for all of us, will he not with him also give us everything else?”

Psalm 37:23-24

“The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.”

Alright, that’s all for today. Thanks for reading, and I hope you are encouraged. If you haven’t clicked that Subscribe button, make sure to do so! Thanks again, and have a wonderful day!
