Today is my sister’s birthday. Elliana McFarland, born on October 2nd, 2009, is now celebrating her tenth birthday. And, through current circumstances, she is proving herself to have already matured in ways I never would have thought possible.
As of right now, the power for our community has been out for the last week. We have lost everything in our fridge and our freezer is about to go too. The Ugandan power workers promised to have it fixed…this week. Sadly, for a Ugandan, that could mean any time in October.
Our house is currently operating on solar, which, because we are in Africa, would normally be fine except for the fact that it’s currently rainy season and I’ve only seen the sun once in the last four days. So, our solar’s basically shot, no fridge, no power, and that’s not even the end of it!
To top it all off, my dad is away on a business trip to Musana Camps (link to my post about Musana Camps found here). He didn’t want to go, knowing it was Elly’s birthday, but his bosses forced him to come, so he had to miss his first daughter’s 10th birthday. Yipee.
But, do you know what’s crazy? My sister has been a little beam of sunshine. Even though this is probably the worst birthday in history, she’s never stopped smiling and has taken it all in stride.
Don’t you wish that everybody had that kind of attitude? I mean, I only wish I could say that it’s a result of her missionary kid status, but that’s not true- I would be acting in a completely opposite manner, given the circumstances. Somehow, through God’s grace, Elliana is already acting like a young woman and is displaying the beginning of a Proverbs 31 woman.
2 Thessalonians 3:16 says, “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way.” Praise God for giving Elliana peace! And may he give you a peaceful day as well! Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful day!
